In collaboration with Expanding Your Horizons (a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing STEM experiences to middle and high school girls interested in STEM activities and careers), schools from Geneva have been actively involved in organizing their own hands-on workshops in the lead up to Girls in ICT Day for inspiring local school girls to become ICT creators with the support of experts from ITU, UNOSAT, Futurekids and Techspark Academy. Then, on 28 April, 61 girls who particpated in the school workshops along with their teachers and workshop organizers were invited to the ITU HQ for a half day celebration where they had the opportunity to present through an exhibit their work and what they learned during the workshops to the ITU officials, the diplomatic community, ITU Staff and ITU Delegates.
The event also included a speed mentoring session during which the girls had the opportunity to speak with and get inspired by women role models from the ICT sector.
