On the evening of 24th April 2015, International Girls in ICT Day 2015 event was held by Femmes & TIC RIM in Nouakchott
in Mauritania. Having participated in the planning of this event with my colleague and coordinator of Femme & TIC RIM, Diarra Sylla, the evening of 24th April was extremely fruitful with conferences and testimonies of young women evolving in
ICT domain. Here is a short description of the event that was held:
Diarra Sylla
, coordinator of Innovation Mauritanie (Innov RIM) and of Femmes &TIC RIM, gave a talk about woman in the ICT
Domain.
Dr DIAKITÉ Mohamed Lamine,
Senior Lecturer at University of Nouakchott (Mauritania) explained about the importance of ICT for the automation of women.
Mariem Ba
, Engineer in Telecommunication and member of Hadina RIM TIC, which organized a competition called MauriApp Challenge
that focused on the development of ICT applications in Mauritanie, talked about the implications of Mauritanian women in the ICT Domain. She explained
about the problematic for women working the ICT Domain as well.
Aichetou War
, IT engineer, Assistant of Project Management and member of AMAM, further explained regarding the problematic while focus on gender
and ICT. She talked about the major challenges that Mauritanian women face in ICT Domain.
Amina and Mariam Bedi
, both IT Engineer of Women Techmakers of Google Developer Group in Mauritania, presented about woman's interest in programming and
usefulness of Google tools.
Khadijetou Mint El Abed
, Engineer in software engineering, who came first in the MauriApp Challenge competition, presented about her application DiabApp which consisted of improving the daily monitoring of diabetic patients.
After this passage, it was time for me, Dioully Oumar Diallo, to present about my application TaxiSecure which took
third place in the MauriApp Challenge competition. TaxiSecure is a tool of prevention against the sexual abuse of
minors and women on board of taxis
This was followed with a talk given by Miss Aissé Camara about her association which aims to popularize girls' education.
The ending of the event consisted on giving Certification to eight girls that benefited from a free training in IT which lasted one month and
supervised by the members of Femmes & TIC RIM.
The event was exciting giving us the chance to meet girls and women full of ambition. A big thank you to our partners who have supported us and allowed
us to feed and animate this event:
