Dr. Fabio Bigi holds a Doctorate degree in Electronic Engineering at the University of Rome. He began his career as a researcher at the Fondazione Ugo Bordoni in 1967. In November 1968, he became an ITU staff member with increasing responsibilities in the areas of standardization. He ended his career at ITU as Deputy Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau. He then became a consultant for the Italian administration in 2001. Dr. Bigi continued to involve extensively in the work of ITU as a representative of the Italian administration. He was the chairman of the ITU Council in 2011. During PP-14 he was the chairman of the group in charge with the resolution on the internet. He was chair of the group charged with the strategic planning and the working methods of the sector and of the declaration of Hyderabad in WTDC-10. He was also involved in numerous other key ITU events and activities including WRC, WTSA, and WSIS. Currently, he is the Vice Chairman of ITU-T Study Group 20 “IoT and Smart Cities & Communities” and the Chairman of the Informal Experts Group on WTPF-21 (IEG-WTPF-21).
