Ivica Puljak is mayor of Split in Croatia since June 2021, president of the liberal political party Center and professor of physics at the University of Split, currently on leave. He obtained PhD from University Pierre and Maire Curie in Paris in 2000. He was a member of many national and international scientific boards and committees and has been awarded several national and international prizes for science and education. He actively participated in the discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN, and his research interests are the construction of the electromagnetic calorimeter of the CMS detector, physics of the Higgs boson and astroparticle physics. In 2024 he has been elected as a member of Croatian parlament, but did not assume that position, wanted to fully devote his time to the position of mayor and the president of the Centar party.
