Fifth Global Standards Symposium (GSS-24)
The Fifth Global Standards Symposium (GSS-24) took place on 14 October 2024 in New Delhi, India, bringing together over 2600 participants including thought leaders, policymakers, and innovators from around the globe.
Uniting the World through Standards
This global event, chaired by Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of the Centre for Development of Telematics, focused on the theme: “Charting the Next Digital Wave: Emerging Technologies, Innovation, and International Standards“.
The symposium reaffirmed the importance of investing in technical standards development to propel innovations in key areas like AI, smart cities, and virtual worlds to accelerate sustainable development. The symposium’s outcomes were submitted for the consideration of ITU’s membership at the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24) and are freely available online.

High Level Segment: Catalyzing Change: Industry & Ministerial Leaders Crafting the Future of Innovation
The High Level Segment was co-chaired by the ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, and the Chair of GSS-24 Rajkumar Upadhyay. Communications ministers, industry leaders, and tech experts at the High-Level Segment of GSS-24 showcased their latest innovations, exchanged insights, and shared aspirations for international standards development.
World Standards Day Ceremony
On the occasion of World Standards Day under the theme “Achieving industry, innovation and infrastructure through AI”, leaders from ITU, IEC and ISO delivered insightful speeches on the crucial role of international standards in shaping the landscape of emerging technologies, fostering innovation, and steering the course for the next digital wave.
International AI Standards Summit
The International AI Standards Summit, launched during GSS-24, featured sessions at the Digital Wave Stage, Network of Women, and AI for Good Impact India on 18 October 2024. Bringing together leading standardization organizations and global digital leaders, the summit explored the vital role of responsible, safe, and inclusive AI standards in shaping the future.
