Workshop on "Next Generation Networks" |
Geneva, 9-10 July 2003
Abstract
Last November, NTT announced a vision for a new generation of communication, which makes full use of optical technology, and presented a roadmap towards that goal. This states that NTT will provide future new services over a network based on a new architecture called the Resonant Communication Network Architecture, or RENA. The features which make RENA differ from conventional IP networks include the provision of high security, a high-speed and large-capacity network, and end-to-end connectivity. After briefly reviewing the background to NTTs decision to develop a next-generation network, this presentation provides a description of the RENA architecture and recommendations for the required areas of standardization of interfaces in next-generation networks.
