Advances in the Emerging Standard H.264/AVC |
Where: Denver, Colorado, USA
When: 2-6 August 2004 (ITU-T Session, 5 August 2004)
Why: ITU-T will lend its support to two sessions within SPIE's
(The International Society for Optical Engineering) conference on Applications
of Digital Image Processing XXVII.
H.264 / Advanced Video Coding (AVC) is a novel video compression standard
developed jointly by the Joint Video Team of ITU-T Q.6/SG16 VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG.
This new standard has already gained wide industry acceptance and is being adopted
in many regional and industry-specific standards because of its high compression
efficiency when compared to legacy schemes such as H.262/MPEG-2.
The two sessions on H.264/AVC will promote awareness of the new standard with
presentations on current technical features, technical features seen for future
extensions, licensing issues, implementation verification and conformance. The day
will be complemented by a panel discussion on the impact of H.264/AVC.
