Session 3 – ITU-T Project on Telecommunication for Disaster Relief (TDR)
Mr P-.A.Probst, Chairman, ITU-T SG 16
Abstract:
In 2001 the first contributions were submitted to ITU-T Study Groups to propose the development of
technical standards to support the need of authorized users in disaster relief operations.
During 2002 a framework for this area was defined under the responsibility of SG2 and SG16 (Question I/16).
Starting from the users requirements, a concept of ETS/TDR capabilities and a corresponding system framework
will be developed.
Since this work includes applications, services and networks aspects, in the meantime almost all ITU-T
Study Groups have included in their work-programme relevant TDR aspects and are developing new Recs or
are considering specific amendments to existing standards.
The presentation will describe the rationale and the scope of the work on TDR in ITU-T. In addition
an overview of the work-programme of the different Study Groups involved will be given.
