David W Chadwick, BSc PhD is Professor of Information Systems Security at the University of Salford.
He has been active in X.500 standardisation since 1984, and was editor of X.518 in the period 1988-1993.
He was one of the first UK academics to install a public key infrastructure for research purposes, and was
a participant in the EC TrustHealth 2 project from 1997-2000. He and his team were the first people to build
a fully operational X.509 privilege management infrastructure, under the EC PERMIS project (2000-2002), and
to use it for the electronic transfer of prescriptions (2000-2003). The PERMIS PMI is now on public release
for R&D and educational purposes ( http://sec.isi.salford.ac.uk/permis
) as part of the US National Science
