Short Abstract
REMEDY (Remote Telematic Solutions for patient diagnoses and training of health care professionals in sparsely populated areas).
The main aim of REMEDY is to develop a European standard for education and skills training of nursing staff including the importance of the ethical aspects of the staff�s professional stance and way of dealing with patients in patient- oriented work within the Care Services that also offers the possibility for certification at different levels.
Abstract
REMEDY is a collaborative European Northern Periphery Programme Project. It is run by the lead partner The Care Services Administration of V�nn�s municipality in Sweden in co- operation with V�nn�s Health Care Center, the Geriatric Center at Ume� University Hospital, The Geriatric Department at Ume� University in Sweden, the Kainuu region in Finland and the Remote Care Unit Department of General Practice at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
The main aim of REMEDY is to develop a European standard for education and skills training of nursing staff including the importance of the ethical aspects of the staff�s professional stance and way of dealing with patients in patient- oriented work within the Care Services that also offers the possibility for certification at different levels. This development work will be carried out during the period 2002- 2005.
The input from Scotland is focused on IT as a means to give healthcare professionals in remote areas access to training and education in the use of telemedicine. The Scottish work package in six stages will develop and deliver a telemedicine training course for the multidisciplinary health care team, which will be standardised for Scotland, Sweden and Finland after being piloted in all countries.
Stage 1
The first stage of the project is to conduct a literature review of relevant information relating to training in the use of telemedicine equipment. Information is being collected which relates to clinical care support and educational uses of telemedicine. This information will be gathered from published papers in electronic databases, conference proceedings and personal interviews and will reflect pan European requirements for remote areas.
Stage 2
An inventory of user competencies, skill levels and training needs.
Stage 3
A flexible training matrix will be developed to be suitable for all telemedical purposes. This will be produced as an electronic training manual, which would be used to conduct training programmes by means of video conferences.
Stage 4
A pilot training programme will be undertaken in order to gain information relating to the strengths and weakness of the programme.
Stage 5
The flexible training matrix will then be modified in relation to the findings from the pilot course.
Stage 6
An electronic training manual will be produced, which would provide the necessary guidance for conducting training courses for members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. The actual course content would be established by selecting the modules appropriate to the specific project requirements.
