The application “
SocialElectricity” has been awarded the winner of the second ITU Green ICT Application Challenge. Designed by
Andreas Kamilaris, from Cyprus, “
SocialElectricity” is a Facebook application that allows people to compare their electricity footprint with their friends and also their neighborhood/village/town in a country-wide scale. The application aims to help people become aware of their electricity consumption and manage it more rationally.
The winner of the competition – Andreas Kamilaris – presented his application on 19 September 2012 in Paris (France) during the
2nd ITU Green Standards Week.

Standby Monitor for Home Appliances

This application proposes a simple solution to reduce the power wastage in home appliances. A low cost affordable device, which can be installed by the home users themselves, sends wireless signal to a monitor displaying at any time appliances that are left in power-on mode and idling. Alerted by the monitor, the users have an idea of the devices to be switched off.
ELECTROSOFT - An Application of Software Technology for Electric Power Supply Scheduling

Such an application can save electricity by scheduling the power supply of devices and providing global control by cell phone DTMF to turn on or off power supply any time from any location of this earth and minimizing the human mistakes.
A Energy Proportional Power Supply Control for Rural ICT Systems

This application proposes the development of an integrated management technology for renewable energy to run ICT systems in rural areas using the surplus power of the photovoltaic power generation unit designed for a cellular-phone base station. This proposal aims at providing rural areas with ICT systems in an energy-efficient way improving local people's quality of life.
