The 2008 Global Event on Measuring the
Information Society, organized by the Partnership on Measuring ICT for
Development, took place in May 2008 to discuss the latest progress made
in ICT measurement globally. The Global Event considered proposals for
new core ICT indicators on education, revisions made to the indicators
included in the existing core ICT list, impact measurements, the
development of a global ICT database, and technical capacity building
needs. Comments on the

2008.The Global Event was attended by 151 delegates from 66 UN member
countries, and 22 intergovernmental organizations, NGOs and civil
society organizations representatives from government offices
responsible for ICT statistics, telecommunication authorities, ICT-related
Ministries, as well as other stakeholders interested in the measurement
of the information society. The Global Event was included in the cluster
of
WSIS-related events 2008
that took place in Geneva during the month of
May.
