Title | Translation & Arabization of ICT Terminology
Description | ITU produces handbooks and guidelines which were/are translated into Arabic by companies external to the ITU. ICT terminology used by these companies sometimes differs to a great extent which implies some confusion or misunderstanding among specialists using such ITU products. Due to the fact that Arabic language is widely spread in the Arab countries and in some other countries, it is important to unify, align, harmonize and, if necessary, translate the terminology of the ITU-T, ITU-R and ITU-D. Recommendations and publications produced over the past five years, thus, creating an integrated database that is/will be updated and improved, and that will be used for compiling English-French-Arabic dictionary as an online service, CD-Roms and printed version. It is a fact, that the lack of commonly agreed upon terminologies within the Arab region impacts negatively on the spread of ICTs, as well as on education in the region.
