Summary: The emergence of Internet of everything put forward the need for critical requirements on the IoT devices. Users requires the devices featuring with maintenance-free, low cost, and small size, be able to offers the ability to be placed on anything and interact with the network. However, most IoT devices consist with batteries, and the replacement or charging of the batteries limits the applicability of the IoT. To address these concerns, the ambient power-enabled IoT support by new capabilities is necessary. By the coordination of the energy transaction between the network and devices, the device no longer needs to carry batteries but harvest energy from ambient instead. To satisfy such energy level, the device may need change a different communication method that only respond to the network passively, rather than initiating communication actively. This Recommendation provides an overview of ambient power-enabled Internet of things (Ambient-IoT). It provides the concept of the Ambient-IoT, the fundamental characteristics, requirements and capabilities of the Ambient-IoT.
