Summary: Each domain within smart cities, such as transportation, energy, and public service, has individually progressed by leveraging digital twin and metaverse technologies. However, these advancements have often occurred in isolation, resulting in fragmentation and limiting the potential for seamless integration across domains. This highlights the existence of a need for a unified smart city platform that can facilitate cross-domain collaboration and interoperability. To address this, the concept of a unified "citiverse" that enhances interoperability across domains and integrates the metaverse ecosystem will be explored. The main differences of citiverse, compare with existing smart cities, are participation of citizen within the integrated metaverse system. These capabilities promote citizens to contribute to the development of the citiverse through communication within the metaverse ecosystem, enabling direct participation by shifting from the traditional model of centrally controlled smart cities to one where citizens actively engage and play a central role. To further establish this concept, diverse use cases are presented to demonstrate how integrating metaverse technologies and digital twins can address challenges in smart cities.
