System sustainability has been often addressed in a fragmented way, focusing only on specific issues like energy-efficiency, without considering the dynamics and interconnections with other sustainability dimensions. As pointed out by FG-AI4EE, this approach has frequently led to system inefficiencies, misallocation of key resources, and drawbacks requiring later intervention at additional costs, resources, and time—a risk society cannot afford, given the delay and the limited resources and time to achieve sustainability targets (i.e., only 12% of sustainability targets for 2030 are on track).
