Work item: L.Sup.MDEE
Subject/title: Study of Multi-dimensional network energy efficiency metrics
Status: Under study [Issued from previous study period]
Approval process: Agreement
Type of work item: Supplement
Version: New
Equivalent number: DTR/EE-EEPS58 (Twin)
Timing: 2025 (Low priority)

Supporting members: Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (China), Telecom Italia S.p.A. (Italy), Ericsson AB (Sweden), China Telecom (China)
Summary: A mobile network need to fulfill several service requirements, such as being able to deliver a certain service volume with a given service quality and service availability. However, most network energy efficiency metrics only reflects the service volume (e.g. transported data volume, coverage area, or number of connections), not the other performance dimensions. This supplement studies existing network energy efficiency metrics and outlines proposals and analysis on how mobile network energy efficiency metrics capturing multiple performance dimensions (service volume, service quality, service availability, etc.) can be formulated.
Comment: Title changed during the SG5 meeting held on17-27 October2022. Work item jointly developed with ETSI TC EE to become a technically aligned deliverable.
