This Recommendation provides a framework for out-of-band physical access control systems using beacon-initiated mutual authentication, enabling users to authenticate and use physical facilities in a safe and trustworthy manner coupled with the biometric authentication on their smartphone. It defines the procedures of out-of-band physical access control system, where users intending to use physical facilities receive beacon-based dynamic authentication information on their smartphones, verify facility information, and then perform the approval operated on their smartphones. Additionally, it identifies potential security threats associated with these systems, corresponding security requirements.
