On 26 September 2008, the ITU recognized the site named "Pierre Berg�re" in Salvan, for its invaluable contribution in the heritage of telecommunications, thanks to experiments of wireless communications Guglielmo Marconi did in that location of Switzerland. It is during summer, 1895, after its first trials in Italy in the Villa Griffone in Pontecchio near Bologna, that Marconi stayed in the mountain resort of Salvan, which reputation had widely exceeded borders of Switzerland. With the help of Maurice Gay-Balmaz, a young national of Salvan, Marconi worked there during summer to manage, after many trials, to send a radio message of Salvan to Mar�cottes (1.5 km).

In the presence of H.E. Mr. Pascal Couchepin, President of the Swiss Confederation, the ITU celebrated this event with the inauguration of a commemorative plaque by Dr. Hamadoun Tour�, Secretary-General, preceded by a colloquium on radiocommunications issue organized by the Marconi Foundation.
