ITU, Member States, and Partners Working Together to Improve the Protection of Children Online: An Overview of Some of the Activities Being Undertaken by COP partners
On the occasion of 2009 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) dedicated to ‘Protecting Children in Cyberspace’, the ITU Secretary-General announced a year-long Call for Action, in which he encouraged all stakeholders (policy-makers, regulators, operators, industry, NGOs) to promote the adoption of policies and strategies that will ensure safe access to online resources for the world's children and young people.
For the 2010 WSIS Forum held in conjunction with WTISD a report was
compiled to provide the WSIS community and 2010 WSIS Forum participants with an update on the activities of the Child Online Protection (COP) initiative undertaken by ITU and partners since ITU Secretary-General, Dr Hamadoun I. Tour�, on 17 May 2009, on the occasion of 2009 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), announced
this year-long Call for Action.
This section provides an insight into some of the activities that COP
partners have been implementing throughout the year, as well as
exciting activities planned for the near future. The links provide
more information on the activities. The following COP partners have
provided input on their current activities (as of 5 May 2010):
Cyber Peace Initiative, ECPAT International, eWWG, European Broadcasting Union (EBU); European Commission - Safer Internet Programme, The International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC).
